Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs moved to 3-3 with a 30-17 win over the Detroit Lions on “Sunday Night Football.”

The Chiefs led 13-10 at halftime and never trailed from that point on. In the second half, Kansas City scored 17 points, Mahomes threw for 257 yards and three scores, and Travis Kelce led the Chiefs’ pass-catchers with six receptions for 78 yards.

After the game, sparks flew with an all-out brawl between two players of the opposing teams.

Following the final snap – a kneel-down by the Chiefs – Lions safety Brian Branch got into an altercation and smacked Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.

It began when Branch failed to shake Mahomes’ hand, and things escalated from there.

Smith-Schuster confronted Branch, and Branch proceeded to smack him in the face as things unraveled.

Shortly after, a slo-mo angle of the slap surfaced on the internet.

The video shows Smith-Schuster going in to shake Branch’s hand and Branch reacting by hitting him in the face.

Both players wound up going to the ground with Smith-Schuster’s helmet being taken off in a wild scene at Arrowhead Field on Sunday night.

After things had settled, Mahomes didn’t speak about the incident in his postgame interview on the field. However, Cris Collinsworth did say that there could be fines coming, especially for Branch.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15), left, talks to Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell after the players scuffle at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025.

There is an expectation that fines will be handed down from the NFL for multiple players after the way things turned out in Kansas City on Sunday night.

The Chiefs face the Las Vegas Raiders in Kansas City in Week 8, and the Lions face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Monday Night Football.”
